The Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Men’s Second XI Scorer to join our Cricket Operations team!
The role’s main purpose is to provide accurate and comprehensive scoring for all Men’s Second XI fixtures, ensuring real-time data capture and alignment with domestic and/or international cricket standards. The Men’s Second XI scorer plays a vital role in the performance environment, supporting the coaching and analysis teams with consistent and reliable match data.
To give you a snapshot of what the role involves, you will be responsible for scoring Men’s Second XI matches, including home and away fixtures, domestic games, and friendly matches. You’ll ensure precise live scoring using ECB-approved digital platforms, connect to the electronic scoreboard for home matches, and perform pre-match tests to guarantee proper data synchronisation. Additionally, you will provide DLS sheets to teams and officials for One-Day matches, support the DLS Manager, and coordinate data feeds with analysts and digital systems where necessary. Maintaining data integrity is crucial, with a focus on real-time accuracy of player statistics, milestones, and match data, as well as preparing end-of-season statistical summaries and keeping detailed scorebooks and digital archives in compliance with ECB, SCCC, and competition standards.
Effective communication and coordination are vital to this role, as you’ll be liaising with umpires, opposition scorers, analysts, and team management to verify score accuracy and address any disruptions, DLS issues, or disputes. You may also provide coverage for Men’s First XI and Tier One Women's matches when needed. A thorough knowledge of cricket laws, ECB, and ICC regulations is essential, alongside maintaining proper scorer’s equipment and ensuring all materials are ready for each fixture, including pens, tablets, and chargers.
About You
Amongst other criteria, you will have proven experience scoring at professional, semi-professional, or elite amateur levels, with a strong understanding of cricket laws, playing conditions, and scoring conventions. You’ll be highly proficient with digital scoring platforms such as Play-Cricket Scorer Pro and NV Play, with strong IT skills including Excel, Word, and email, along with practical knowledge of current scoring software. A full or clean driving license is required for transport to matches, and you should hold or be working towards an ECB ACO Level 2 Scorer qualification. Previous experience within professional or recreational cricket, familiarity with the DLS method and match interruptions, and basic knowledge of performance analysis tools or live video integration are also essential.
To thrive in this role, you’ll demonstrate exceptional attention to detail and focus under pressure, with the ability to work collaboratively with analysts, coaches, and match officials. You’ll have excellent time management skills, be reliable and flexible, and capable of spending extended periods away from home. Maintaining a high level of confidentiality and integrity is essential to ensure professionalism in all aspects of the role.
You will need to be eligible to work in the UK and flexible to travel with the team (including overnight stays) and work weekends, public holidays, and evenings as per the match schedule. Club kit and equipment will be provided, as will opportunities for ongoing professional development through the ECB ACO and internal CPD.
