Job Title: Education and Coaching Manager
Location: The Cooper Associates County Ground, Taunton (with travel across Somerset)
Reporting to: Managing Director, Somerset Cricket Foundation
Contract Type: Full-time, permanent
Working Hours: Minimum of 37.5 hours per week, with regular evening and occasional weekend work
Salary: £34,000 - £38,000 per annum

Purpose of the Role
The Education & Coaching Manager is a key leadership role within the Somerset Cricket Foundation (SCF), responsible for delivering inspirational and inclusive cricket opportunities across the county. This individual will play a pivotal part in engaging young people, schools, and teachers in meaningful experiences that create a lifelong passion for the game.
The post holder will lead the development and delivery of school programmes, the College Academy, and SCF’s range of young people’s cricket coaching offers. They will also champion innovation, inclusivity, and sustainability in how cricket is provided, ensuring consistent alignment with SCF’s strategic vision to Engage, Inspire, Support, and Educate.
Key Responsibilities
1. Programme Leadership and Development
- Working in close partnership with Chance to Shine and Lord's Taverners as funding partners, to lead, manage and grow the SCF schools cricket programme across primary and secondary settings.
- Develop and expand the STUMPY programme, aligning it with the PSHE curriculum to use cricket as a tool for empowerment and educational enrichment.
- Design and oversee a relevant and accessible competition pathway for schools, shaped through regular consultation with pupils and teachers.
2. Coaching and Workforce Management
- Lead the Community Coaching team (six coaches and one apprentice), providing guidance and performance support to deliver quality cricket experiences across all settings.
- Innovate and expand the Foundation’s coaching offer by exploring new in-curriculum and after-school opportunities outside of funded programmes.
- Play a lead role in coach development through involvement in the Somerset Coaches Association and by working with SCF’s Safeguarding Manager to uphold best practice and safeguarding standards.
3. Engagement and Participation
- Maximise school engagement year on year by building strong partnerships with local education providers, school games organisers, and county-wide networks.
- Deliver inspirational schools’ events, including mass participation days at The Cooper Associates County Ground, creating lasting impact for young people.
- Connect children with role models, including Somerset County Cricket Club players, to foster motivation and aspiration.
4. Inclusion and Transition
- Facilitate transitions from school cricket to clubs and community environments, ensuring children are signposted to their next cricketing step.
- Provide leadership development opportunities through young leader and play leader programmes, nurturing the next generation of cricket volunteers and club leaders.
5. Education and Sustainability
- Co-design a high-quality CPD programme for trainee teachers and early career teachers (ECT), embedding cricket into their teaching toolkit.
- Provide schools with tailored coaching resources, learning tools, and session guides to support independent delivery.
- Develop a comprehensive resource hub for educators, enabling sustained cricket delivery long after initial interventions.
6. Commercial Delivery and Impact
- Oversee the commercial coaching offer, ensuring it meets demand, maintains quality and accessibility, and contributes to SCF’s sustainability goals.
- Ensure that profits from commercial coaching are reinvested into charitable delivery to broaden cricket’s reach and impact.
- Lead and manage the SCF Further Education Academy in partnership with Richard Huish College. Manage the multi-stakeholder relationship ensuring the programmne thrives and develops.
- Monitor performance, budget delivery, and programme impact through robust evaluation and reporting practices.
Essential Experience and Knowledge
- Proven track record of people and programme management in an educational, coaching or community setting.
- Experience in delivering or overseeing school sport or curriculum-based programmes.
- Familiarity with funding processes and reporting to funders such as Chance to Shine or Lord’s Taverners.
- Experience working with the primary, secondary, and SEND sectors.
- Background in cricket coaching or sports education.
- Project and budget management skills, including data collection and impact reporting.

Qualifications and Requirements
- Up-to-date ECB DBS certificate.
- Up-to-date Safeguarding and Child Protection training (including Safe Hands).
- Equality, Diversity and Inclusion training.
- Full and valid UK driving licence with access to own transport.
- ECB Core Coach coaching qualification (desirable but not essential).
